The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said Tuesday evening a San Angelo man died in the crash at State Highway 158 and County Road 160 in Midland County Tuesday morning. The fatal crash happened at 6:43 a.m.
According to preliminary information from DPS Sergeant Steven Blanco, Christopher Aaron Vargas, 26, of San Angelo, was driving a Ram 2500 westbound on SH 158 near ECR 160 in the outside lane. Jesus Daniel Mesa-Pena, 27, of Tomball, Texas, was driving a freightliner with trailer westbound on SH 158 also in the outside lane ahead of Vargas. Blanco said Vargas struck Mesa-Pena “from the rear.” Vargas died at the scene and Mesa-Pena was not injured. This crash remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
