A proposed bill filed in the Texas House on Thursday could lead to a redesigned standardized test for kids in public schools as soon as next year. House Bill 4 would direct the Texas Education Agency to modify the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness test, or STAAR, by making it shorter and focusing on post-secondary preparation. Texas students are required to take the STAAR test every year starting in the third grade. The Texas American Federation of Teachers and other groups say the test has a number of design flaws.
